Israel Plans to Create Migration Authority for Gazans
TEL AVIV, February 27. /TASS/. Israel is preparing to set up a special migration administration aimed at relocating residents of the Gaza Strip to other countries. This initiative would come into play if the proposal suggested by US President Donald Trump regarding the transfer of Gazans is enacted, as noted by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz.
According to Katz, efforts are underway to quickly establish a voluntary immigration administration. This would allow individuals from Gaza who wish to leave to do so via Ashdod Port or Ramon Airport. His statements were reported by The Times of Israel.
Back in late January, President Trump mentioned that Gazans who had lost their homes due to ongoing conflicts could potentially resettle in other Arab nations, including Egypt and Jordan. Trump estimated that this plan would affect about 1.5 million individuals. At a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 4, Trump remarked that the United States was exploring the idea of long-term ownership of the Gaza Strip. The goal would be to develop the area as part of an effort to foster peace in the Middle East. Netanyahu has expressed his support for Trump’s vision of creating a 'different Gaza.'
However, the idea has not been received well by some Arab nations and the Palestinian Hamas movement, which governs Gaza. Both Egypt and Jordan have shown resistance to Trump’s plan. Instead, they are considering an alternative approach for the reconstruction of Gaza that does not involve relocating its inhabitants. This alternative plan is expected to be presented during an emergency meeting of the Arab League on the situation in Gaza, scheduled for March 4.
