Rupee Gains Slightly Against the US Dollar
The Pakistani rupee experienced a modest rise against the US dollar, gaining 0.05% in the inter-bank market on Friday. The currency was noted to have closed at 278.71 after appreciating by Re0.15 against the dollar. In comparison, it had ended the previous trading day at 278.86, as reported by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Global Currency Trends
On a broader scale, the Japanese yen is positioning itself for its strongest weekly performance in over a month. There is increasing anticipation that the Bank of Japan will implement a rate hike in the upcoming week. This expectation has influenced the US dollar negatively, particularly as it coincides with Donald Trump’s potential return to the White House.
This week, the yen recorded a remarkable increase of 1.5% against the US dollar, marking its best performance since late November. As of Friday, the yen was slightly lower at a rate of 155.34 per dollar, while still remaining near the one-month high of 155.10, which it touched on Thursday.
Other Major Currencies
In addition to the yen, other major currencies were holding steady. The euro remained unchanged at $1.03035, and the British pound showed little variation at $1.22355 during early trading sessions.
These developments in the currency market reflect ongoing global economic dynamics and the influences of various central banks' policies. Traders and investors are closely monitoring these trends as they play a significant role in international financial markets.
