Tesla Achieves Record Electric Vehicle Sales in China

Published December 11, 2024

In a remarkable performance, the U.S. automaker Tesla sold 21,900 electric vehicles (EVs) in China during the first week of December 2024. This achievement marks the highest weekly sales for the company in the fourth quarter.

The announcement by Tesla China on Wednesday comes on the heels of a strong showing in November, where the company reported its best month in the Chinese market, with total sales exceeding 73,000 vehicles.

Over the past year, Tesla's Model Y has gained substantial popularity, becoming the best-selling passenger vehicle in the country, with impressive sales figures totaling 556,000 units.

To boost sales further as the year comes to an end, Tesla has introduced incentives in China. These include a limited-time discount of 10,000 yuan (approximately $1,375.89) on outstanding loans for the Model Y. This strategic move comes as the company faces increasing competition from rivals, particularly in light of a cost-cutting initiative led by BYD.

Tesla's efforts to maintain its position in the growing EV market of China underline the importance of the region to its business strategy.
