Mark Zuckerberg's $65 Billion AI Investment: Implications for Nvidia and Other Tech Giants

Published January 25, 2025

Deepwater Asset Management's Gene Munster highlights the potential benefits of Meta Platform Inc. (META) planning to invest up to $65 billion this year aimed at enhancing its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. This substantial investment is expected to have positive ramifications for Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) and other hardware manufacturers.

Recent Developments: On a recent announcement, Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg detailed the company's capital expenditure plans for 2025, specifically focusing on AI development. He stated that Meta is set to allocate between $60 billion and $65 billion to expand its AI teams and construct a new data center. Zuckerberg described this upcoming data center as remarkably large, stating it would cover a significant portion of Manhattan. He expressed ambitions for Meta to bring a gigawatt of computing power online by 2025, targeting over 1.3 million graphics processing units by the end of the year.

Munster noted that this commitment far surpasses the Street’s expectations of $51 billion. He emphasized, "In 2025, I anticipate Meta AI will emerge as the leading assistant, serving over 1 billion users, while Llama 4 will become the leading advanced model, supported by AI systems contributing increased amounts of code to R&D endeavors."

Market Commentary: Munster indicated that the short-term outcomes of this investment will particularly favor Nvidia and other hardware suppliers. Moreover, he outlined that this increased capital expenditure could turbocharge the AI ecosystem, fostering innovation, reducing operational costs, attracting more clientele, and consequently prompting further investment.

However, Munster also offered a cautionary note to investors: "I believe the market is poised for gains, but this trend may culminate in a significant market correction down the road."

The latest update corroborates the continued strength of the AI market, showcasing Zuckerberg's statement that $META plans to invest $60 to $65 billion in capital expenditures for 2025, which exceeds prior projections.

Significance of Meta's Moves: Zuckerberg's announcement follows Meta's advancements in AI technology, including the rollout of the Llama 3.3 70B AI model in December. This model reportedly outperforms those developed by competitors like Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) and OpenAI. Notably, it provides the capabilities of Meta's larger Llama model, Llama 3.1 405B, but at a significantly lower cost.

Previously, in April, Meta revealed its intention to procure 350,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs by 2024 to boost its AI activities. Zuckerberg later clarified that while these GPUs were initially aimed at enhancing Instagram Reels, they also positioned Meta as a formidable player in AI development.

In a related note, former President Donald Trump criticized the European Union for targeting U.S. tech giants, alleging that their regulatory actions amounted to a form of taxation.

Current Stock Performance: As of the last trading day, Meta Platforms Inc.'s stock closed at $647.49, reflecting a slight decrease of 0.20%.Zuckerberg, Meta, Investment
