Nvidia Partners with Dutch Government to Develop an Advanced AI Supercomputer Facility

Published January 9, 2025

On Thursday, the Dutch government officially signed a deal with Nvidia Corp (NVDA) to collaborate on the establishment of a new artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputer facility. This partnership aims to enhance research and development capabilities in the Netherlands.

The Dutch government has allocated a significant budget of 204.5 million euros (approximately $210 million) for AI investments, which will support this innovative facility.

Reports indicate that this deal comes in light of ongoing discussions about additional semiconductor sanctions that the Biden administration may impose. Such sanctions could affect access to critical semiconductor technology for both allies and rivals as the administration prepares to transition to the Trump administration.

According to sources, the potential sanctions could be categorized into three distinct tiers, as mentioned by Bloomberg news. Meanwhile, the Netherlands continues to maintain strong ties with the United States, remaining in the Tier 1 category with full access to necessary technological resources.

ASML Holding ASML has emerged as a significant beneficiary from the developments in AI, thanks to its advanced lithography portfolio and scalable EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet) technology. These technologies empower chipmakers like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) to produce high-performance chips for Nvidia's AI processors.

ASML anticipates considerable growth in its sales, predicting an annual revenue range of 46.51 billion euros to 63.43 billion euros ($46.51 billion to $63.43 billion) by 2030, along with a gross margin goal of 56%-60%. The company expects that global sales will exceed $1 trillion by 2030, driven by the increasing integration of AI technologies across various industries.

Price Action: On Wednesday, NVDA stock concluded the day slightly lower, dropping 0.02% to $140.11.

This new partnership is expected to significantly bolster the Netherlands' position in the global AI landscape, ensuring that the country remains competitive and at the forefront of AI development.
