Apple Introduces AI Tools for iPhone Users with Briefings in Stores
Apple has launched its new suite of artificial intelligence tools known as Apple Intelligence. Starting Wednesday, customers can visit Apple stores in the U.S. for briefings that explain how to use these innovative features.
The briefings, lasting about 15 minutes, allow Apple users to learn more about how these AI tools can enhance their experience with devices like the iPhone. The tools enable users to compose emails more quickly, create unique emojis, and even edit photos by removing unwanted elements, including people.
Apple Intelligence is an important aspect of the latest operating system update. The company aims to encourage users to upgrade their devices and buy new ones by showcasing these features in recent advertisements for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, which have aired widely, including during major events like the World Series.
While AI tools have been available in various forms, Apple’s efforts to equip its loyal customer base with these new features could significantly boost mainstream acceptance. However, some users may find the learning curve challenging. Therefore, Apple Store staff are ready to guide customers through the new functionalities.
The first set of Apple Intelligence tools became accessible with the recent operating system update and works on several devices, including the iPhone 15 Pro, iPad A17 Pro, and Macs with M1 chips or newer.
According to Rob Enderle, principal analyst at Enderle Group, it is crucial for users to try out the new tools for them to see their value. Many people are hesitant to use new technology, especially as they get older, so encouraging experimentation is essential.
Enhancing Communication
One of the features of Apple Intelligence assists users in writing and proofreading emails. For instance, if a user is organizing a get-together, they can jot down basic details, and the AI will generate a full invitation. It can also adjust the tone of messages, helping users to make them sound more friendly or formal.
The AI tools can identify unanswered questions in emails, summarize memos, and highlight important messages that require immediate attention, such as notifications about deliveries.
Creating Memories and Editing Photos
Another exciting capability of Apple Intelligence is its ability to help users find specific photos or create videos from their image libraries. A user can simply type a description like, "Hannah and her bunny over the years," and the software will compile a video slideshow complete with music.
The tools also offer photo editing functions that allow users to easily remove unwanted objects or people from their pictures. This means users can erase distractions from selfies or even omit past relationships from photos with just a few taps.
Smarter Siri
The updates have also made Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, more adept at understanding requests, even when users misspeak. Users can ask Siri to set alarms or timers by speaking or typing their commands, with improved clarity and accuracy.
Custom Emojis
Apple Intelligence enables users to create personalized emojis as stickers or for text messages. For example, a user could request an emoji of a “shrimp with a cowboy hat,” and they will receive a one-of-a-kind emoji to share.
Apple plans to release additional tools for Apple Intelligence in December, which will feature new options for creating emoji-like images based on user photos. Additionally, there could be a feature that allows interaction with ChatGPT through Siri.
